CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS EMAIL ... LAST LINE SHOULD READ

This earthquake is located approximately 1,300km NE of Sao Luis, Brazil.

SEISMIC ALERT:  CENTRAL MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE  10 SEPTEMBER 2008  13:08 UTC  6.4 MW

The following preliminary information is available for this earthquake:

ORIGIN TIME		:	13:08 15s UTC
LAT/LONG		:	8.001? North / 38.687? West
DEPTH			:	10 km
MAGNITUDE		:	6.4 Mw
LOCALITY		:	Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge

No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time and based on historical earthquake and tsunami data NO destructive tsunami warning has been issued. However, there is the possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coastal areas close to the epicentre. Authorities in the epicentral region should be made aware of this possibility.
