SEISMIC EVENT: EASTERN XIZANG (TIBET) 6 OCTOBER 2008  08:30 UTC  6.3 MW

The following preliminary information is available for this earthquake:

DATE			:	6 October 2008
ORIGIN TIME		:	08:30 46s UTC
LAT/LONG		:	29.76? North / 90.30? East
DEPTH			:	10 km 
MAGNITUDE		:	6.3 Mw
LOCALITY		:	Damxung County, Eastern Xizang (Tibet)
COMMENTS          :     Approximately 80km west of Lhasa, the capital of Xizang (Tibet)

Initial reports suggested that "no reports of damage or casualties had been received", however, more recent information has confirmed that at least 30 people have been killed and many houses have collapsed near the epicentre in Damxung County.
