SEISMIC ALERT: CHECHNYA, CAUCASUS REGION, RUSSIA 11 OCTOBER 2008 12:28 UTC 4.7 Mw
A relatively moderate-sized earthquake has killed 13 people in the southern Russian republic of Chechnya. The epicentre of the event was located approximately 40 km east of the Chechen capital, Grozny. Many roads in the vicinity were damaged and electric power to at least 52,000 peolpe was cut off, whilst around 500 families in the town of Kurchaloi were forced to shelter overnight in tents.

LAT/LONG : 43.326? North / 46.199? East
DEPTH : 10.0 km
MAGNITUDE : 4.7 Mw
LOCALITY : 40 km east of Grozny, Chechnya
Today's event locates approximately 230 km northeast of a magnitude 6.2 earthquake which occurred in the western Caucasus region of Georgia on 29 April 1991, killing 117 people.
