Two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.6 and 7.3 occurring within four hours of each other, have killed at least 4 people and injured dozens of others in West Papua, Indonesia. The epicentres of these events are located about 150 km WNW of the city of Manokwari, Papua, Indonesia.
These events locate approximately 870 km NNW of a magnitude 7.1 earthquake which occurred on 25 June 1976, killing around 5,150 people and 4000 km east of the magnitude 9.1 earthquake which occurred off the coast of western Sumatra on 26 December 2004, causing a tsumani that killed around 250,000 people.
