Alert / SONIC EVENT EAST LOTHIAN

BGS ALERT: PROBABLE SONIC EVENT EAST LOTHIAN 23 OCTOBER 2003 12:50-12:55 UTC
BGS have received an enquiry from RAF Flying Complaints that residents of
several towns in East Lothian reporting a felt event between 13:50 - 13:55
BST on the 23 October. A resident of East Linton described, "a single boom
and the house shook at 13:51" and a resident of North Berwick also
described, "a single boom, the house shook and the horses outside were
disturbed". The nearest rapid-access networks were examined and a small
signal that could be consistent with sonic origin, was recorded at 12:51
UTC, on one solitary seismograph station located approximately 7 km south of
East Linton.
RAF Flying Complaints said that they could not confirm if any military
aircraft were operational in the area at the time and are awaiting radar
records.
