Alert / Blackpool,Chorley-Lancs

BGS ALERT: POSSIBLE SONIC EVENT LANCASHIRE 5 APRIL 2004 14:20 - 14:45 UTC
BGS have received numerous felt reports from the media and residents of
several towns in the Blackpool and Chorley areas of Lancashire, of a felt
event sometime between 14:20 and 14:45, yesterday. Felt reports described,
"heard a loud bang", "the windows rattled" and "the whole building shook".
Data from the BGS rapid-access networks in the region were examined and a
signal consistent with a sonic origin was recorded at around 14:39 UTC on a
microphone situated in the north of Anglesey.
British Aerospace in Preston have confirmed that the Typhoon Euro fighter
was on supersonic exercises at the time in the Irish sea.
