SEISMIC ALERT: SONIC EVENT NORTH WALES, MERSEYSIDE & SOUTHERN CUMBRIA COASTAL REGIONS 24 MAY 2004 19:50 UTC
BGS have received reports from residents of coastal towns in North Wales, Merseyside and southern Cumbria of a felt event sometime between 19:40 and 19:50 UTC last evening. Felt reports described, "the house shook", "felt a loud rumble" and "windows and doors rattled". The nearest rapid-access networks were examined and no earthquakes were detected at the time. However, a signal that is consistent with a sonic origin was recorded at 19:50 UTC on the BGS seismometer network in North Wales.
British Aerospace in Preston were contacted and have confirmed that the Typhoon Euro-fighter was on supersonic exercises at the time in the Irish Sea.
Best Regards...Davie
