Data Report
Alert / Worsley,Swinton,Eccles
Contributed by BGS
BGS have received numerous calls from the media and Greater Manchester Fire Service reporting events in the Worsley, Swinton, Salford and Eccles areas of Greater Manchester at approximately 06:15 - 06:30 UTC this morning. Felt reports described, "the house shook", "felt a loud rumble" and "heard a loud bang". Data from the BGS rapid-access networks in the region were examined and no signals of a seismic or sonic origin were observed. The nearest station to these areas is approximately 30 km to the east.
As the observations received are similar to those which have been received previously for sonic booms, British Aerospace in Preston were contacted and have confirmed that none of their aircraft were operational at the time. The RAF have also been contacted but have not yet confirmed if any of their aircraft were operational.
