C3 Iran's Red Crescent have also stated that there are around 10,000 people C3 living in villages in the epicentral region and that rescue teams have been C3 sent to the area to help them. The Bushehr nuclear power station, C3 approximately 80 km NW of the epicentre, has not been affected and is C3 working normally, according to officials.

      Latest reports indicate that at least 37 people have been killed, C3 more than 950 have been injured and around 100 houses have been destroyed, a C3 further 500 have been damaged leaving over 1,000 people homeless in nearby C3 villages including Shanbeh, Bashi, Kaki and in the city of Khormoj in C3 Bushehr province.

The earthquake appears C3 to have been the result of normal faulting within the Arabian plate as it is C3 subducted under the Eurasian plate along the Makran coast of Iran.

      The C3 epicentre is around 380 km ESE of the 26 December 2003, magnitude 6.6 Bam C3 earthquake that killed over 31,000 people, injured 30,000 others and C3 devestated the region leaving some 76,000 people homeless.

      Latest C3 reports (via Iranian state TV) have reported that at least 40 people have C3 been killed, however, this figure is expected to rise. All communications C3 in the region have been affected and rescue teams have been sent to the C3 stricken area to assess the damage.
