SEISMIC ALERT: CENTRAL LONDON (EC4) 4 MAY 2005 13:15 - 13:30 UTC
BGS have received a number of calls from members of the public of an event sometime between 13:15 and 13:30 UTC this afternoon in the St Paul's and Blackfriars area of Central London. Data from the BGS rapid-access networks in the region were examined but there was no evidence of a seismic disturbance of any kind detected by the BGS seismograph network. However, we have now been informed that demolition work is ongoing in the area and is the probable cause of the reported tremors.
