BGS ALERT: POSSIBLE SONIC EVENT GRAMPIAN REGION 6 JANUARY 2006 11:00-11:15 UTC
BGS have received reports via the Aberdeen Police and the Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, of a felt event sometime between 11:00 and 11:15 UTC, this morning, in the Aberdeen, Portlethen, Cove Bay and Nigg areas of Grampian region. Felt reports described, "we heard a loud bang" and "all the windows rattled". Data from the BGS rapid-access networks in the region were examined but no earthquakes or signals consistent with a sonic origin were recorded. However, the reports received are consistent with historical observations received for previous events with a sonic origin.
Both RAF Flying Complaints and RAF Kinloss have been contacted but neither could confirm if aircraft were operational at the time.
