Description: | The US Department of Defense led an international effort to prototype and test the CTBT IDC at the Center for Monitoring Research (formerly, the Center for Seismic Studies) in Arlington, Virginia. The hardware and software infrastructure had been designed to be flexible enough to support sophisticated, knowledge-driven fusion of data collected from seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide sensors. Processing and analysis systems incorporated station- and path-specific knowledge. The knowledgebase and the resulting quality of the products improved with experience. New concepts for maintaining the integrity of the facilities, the data, the products and the systems were tested. All products were archived on-line and made available to NDCs via the variety of data access services, including these World Wide Web pages. The seismic processing capability was the most mature at the time, and quite unique. This capability was exercised during the Group of Scientific Experts Third Technical Test (GSETT-3). GSETT-3 began full-scale operations in January 1995 (CD/1296), and was supported by the participation of about 50 countries, 35 primary seismic stations and 40 auxiliary seismic stations. Although the Group of Scientific Experts ceased to exist once the Treaty was opened for signature, GSETT-3 continued, in order to permit continuation of the development and testing of software and procedures for the IDC and the IMS. |
