2025-06-05Emilio José Marcelo Criado-SuttiLerma Valley Ring Installation of Seismometers10.31905/G0EL5M90
ViewIn August 2017, we deployed a temporary seismic network—the Lerma Valley Ring Installation of Seismometers (LEVARIS)—around the city of Salta in northwestern Argentina. The network covered the central and northern parts of the Lerma Valley and operated for thirteen months, comprising thirteen stations. It is cataloged in the FDSN under the official international temporary network code 2Q (2017–2018). The LEVARIS network spanned approximately 80 km in the north–south direction and 30 km east–west. The stations were equipped primarily with Lennartz 3D/5s three-component sensors, with one station using a Mark L4C-3D short-period sensor, buried at a depth of approximately 60 cm. Data acquisition was performed using DATA-Cube3 Type 2 digitizers at a sampling rate of 100 Hz. Power was supplied by batteries recharged via solar panels. Seismic events were manually picked using Snuffler (Heimann et al., 2019), with all picks and first-motion polarities reviewed multiple times. Event locations were determined using HYPOSAT (Schweitzer, 2001), applying the global velocity model AK135 alongside regional models CRUST1.0 (Kissling et al., 1995) and Zeckra’s Santa Barbara system model (Zeckra, 2020). Local magnitudes (ML) were calculated using the updated IASPEI local magnitude scale (Bormann & Dewey, 2012): ML = log A + 1.11 · log R + 0.00189 · R – 2.09 where A is the maximum horizontal amplitude (Wood-Anderson equivalent) and R is the hypocentral distance. This magnitude scale is consistent with that used by Argentina's national seismological agency (INPRES; Sánchez et al., 2013). Focal mechanisms were determined using FOCMEC (Snoke, 2003), employing a linear inversion of first-motion polarities under the assumption of double-couple point sources. Source–receiver paths were modeled using the Cake ray-tracer (Heimann et al., 2019). To refine ambiguous or oscillatory solutions, focal mechanisms were further corrected via waveform cross-correlation. The final dataset includes 25 manually validated and reliably constrained focal mechanisms.

2024-06-04Gregor RajhLocal earthquake tomography dataset for the NW Dinarides area10.31905/QXHASFQN
ViewThe NW Dinarides area lies in the northeastern corner of the Adriatic microplate. Taking advantage of the greatly increased amount of data due to the modernization of the Slovenian seismological network and the temporary deployments within the AlpArray project, we performed 3-D simultaneous hypocenter–velocity inversions with routinely picked arrival times of P- and S-waves from 502 local earthquakes. The resolution analysis showed that the resulting 3-D P-velocity and vP/vS model could be successfully recovered at least up to a depth of 15 km. The final 3-D models show two distinct velocity anomalies with a narrow transition zone in between.

2024-05-17Gonzalo A. FernandezUnveiling midcrustal seismic activity at the front of the bolivian altiplano, Cochabamba region.10.31905/CBEE1FOR
ViewThe seismic catalog presented in ISF format herein is the culmination of six months of continuous seismic monitoring conducted in the Cochabamba department. This endeavor falls within the scope of the temporary project titled "Vigilancia de la sismicidad y micro sismicidad del Oroclino Boliviano" (POB). As part of this initiative, a network comprising eleven seismic stations was established in the Cochabamba department through collaboration with the "Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique - Département analyse, surveillance, environnement" (CEA-DASE), "Université C?te-d'Azur – GeoAzur," and the "Gobernación de Cochabamba." The primary objective of this project is to document mid-crustal microseismicity occurring within the Main Thrust fault shear zone and its associated hangingwall. These investigations are conducted within a region affected by tectonic slivers and transverse faults, which have a significant impact on the sedimentary cover. The findings obtained from this study offer valuable insights into the seismogenic behavior of the fault system and its potential implications across the Bolivian orocline.

ViewA catalog of earthquakes and nuclear explosions with calibrated hypocenters and a groomed set of associated arrival time data, determined using a multiple event relocation algorithm specifically adapted for calibrated relocations of clusters of seismic events. Hypocenters are minimally biased by unknown Earth structure and uncertainties are based on data variances determined from the data itself. Epicentral uncertainties typically range from 1-5 km with a 90% confidence interval. Most events have a depth constraint from one or more sources, usually with an uncertainty of 5 km or less. The dataset contains 21,093 earthquakes in 316 globally distributed clusters.
