The history of the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (IAG) of Mongolian Academy of Science (MAS) goes back to the International Year of Geophysics in 1957. During 1957-1961, the Astronomy and Earthquake Research Station was operated, which was subsequently reformed into the Earthquake Research Center. During 1992-1997, it operated as the Research Center for Earthquake and Geomagnetism which has has later became the Research Center for Astronomy and Geophysics. In 2014, the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics has been founded.
