Geophysical Journal International. |
Description: | The seismological experiment PISCO 94 was carried out with active and passive seismological methods applied simultaneously in the same region. The main N-S seismic refraction profile was located along the western border of the recent magmatic arc. Additional fan observations and complementive profile observations to earlier studies in the Precordillera (Wigger et al., 1994) were realised. A total of 33 shots (bore hole shots and mine blasts) were recorded resulting in more than 3500 km of recording lines. The active shot program was developed with charges between 50 and 1300 kg. Station elevations range between 1000 m and 5000 m. For the profile in the Western Cordillera a total of 4 deployments were done, 2 on each half of the profile with a spacing of 2.5 km approximately between recording sites. For the recordings 70 instruments were available, 40 of them PDAS-100 digital and 10 analogous MARS 66 instruments equipped with 1-Hz three-component geophones (MARK L4C-3D) as well as 20 MARS 66 automatic stations with mainly 2-Hz vertical geophones (MARK L4). The records were sampled with 100 Hz and stored on RAM and magnetic tape, respectively. The time base was provided by GPS-receivers, compared to the internal time signals before and after recording. The seismological network, operating during the active seismic experiment, was composed of 24 Stations installed for 100 days (Asch et al., 1994). |
