Description: | The main purpose of the belgian seismic network is to collect reliable information on the seismic activity in western Europe. The permanent network consists of 25 (soon 26) stations located in Belgium and three stations located in Grand Duchi du Luxembourg. These three stations belong to the "Musie National d'Histoire Naturelle" (MNHN). The Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB) provides the maintenance and the data analysis of all the stations. ROB has also equipments for temporary experiments. The stations are equipped by short-period instruments of different kind (Mark-Product and Lennartz). Four stations are equipped with broad-band seismometers (G|ralp CMG-40, CMG-3E, CMG-3T). The acquisition systems have been developed at the ROB and are PC-based. Since 1998, ISDN connections have been established with several stations and it is possible to receive or request in quasi real-time the data from 13 seismic stations. The Belgian Seismic Network exists since 1899 with the implantation of the Uccle seismic station. It was improved in 1958 and in 1960 with the installation of three other stations on the Belgian territory. From 1985 on, a digital seismic network has been implanted. |
